The PetSafe Wireless Containment System is a simple, yet effective alternative to traditional outdoor fencing or buried wire fencing. Instead of using spools of boundary wire around your yard, the PIF-300 uses radio frequency to guard your pet against straying. To begin training with the PIF-300, temporarily define the safe pet area with boundary flags as a visual aid to the pet. Since we are in the process of selling our home we decided to give this wireless system a try. FIRST, I would suggest you take your dog's temperament into consideration. Although I wouldn't consider our adopted 90 lb. male Weimaraner a wus, he isn't the Alpha dog either.

The training aids were good and he quickly learned how far he could go on static shock level 4. He has since become so accustomed to our establised boundaries that we have lowered it to level 2 (level 1 is just an audible beep). Adjusting the shock level is very easy - it just involves unscrewing a small cover on the collar and depressing a button. On the transmitter, you adjust the RADIUS (remember that the signal is emitted in a circle from the transmitter) using a dial. EASY! It did take some effort to locate it correctly in our home - they suggest it be 24" off of the floor and it obviously has to be near an outlet, but it can emit a signal up to 90 feet in every direction - that's a total cross section of 180 feet!

The only disadvantage we found - and it is minor - is that if your home sits higher (or lower??) than part of your yard it will add few extra feet to your radius until the collar picks up the signal. This can be overcome if you build this allowance into your transmitters placement. Overall, we are thrilled and we've had this about 4 months now. I have had people tell me that once water gets under the battery cover, the battery dies. I don't know, but after looking at the cover I think it would have to be a downpour before that happened - or maybe the dog went swimming or was bathed? Regardless, I placed a piece of duct tape - not pretty but functional - over the cover to keep this from happening.

Finally, we will continue to use this even after we move since it has worked so well. A good investment to protect your pet but PLEASE don't forget to take the collar off of your dog before putting him in the car and backing our of the garage. YIKES!!!

Great collar for a great wireless fence system (Kelli Shaver, Morehead, KY USA)

We've had a PIF wireless fence system for about 3 years and it's always worked great for us. We recently added a second dog to the family and picked up an additional collar. Below is a comparison between the original PIF collars and this new one:

Pros:
- Lighter weight
- Low battery indicator
- Multiple correction levels
- Easy to change the battery
- Better range*

Cons:
- Uses a proprietary battery that I can't just go pick up at any store like I can the old collar (only a problem if you don't have a major pet store nearby-- which I don't).
- More features, easily removable battery, might mean just more stuff to go wrong.
- Better range*

Ok, I listed "better range" as both good and bad, and it is. It's an improvement on the old collar, so if you're replacing or have a new fence system, that's great. If you're using this collar in conjunction with an old collar then you can expect one dog to have a slightly bigger (about 40ft diameter) roaming range then the other. We have a large yard so it's not an issue, but in a smaller yard, I can see where it could potentially become a problem.

All in all, a great product, good, sound construction, and the PIF wireless system has been great for us. The new collar has some advantages and disadvantages to the original one that shipped with the system, but most of the changes are good. The collar (and the system itself) is definitely worth the money for its ease of use and for keeping your pet safe. Amazon has it cheaper than I've seen it anywhere else online.

My husband and I raise AKC labs and have used the Petsafe Wireless system for years. Our dogs learn quickly where their boundary is, and have not suffered any ill affects from this excellent product. We recommend this product to all purchasers of our Labs. Not only will it keep them safely within the confines of their yard, it prevents them from being hurt by possibly wandering onto nearby busy streets. I'd rather they be "warned" by a very small "charge" of electricity than lose them to the wheels of a car.

So far, we have purchased 4 of these collars, and I'm ordering more today. FYI, the company producing these collars really go out of their way to make sure the product is correct and have stood behind their guarantee when we had a small problem with one of them. They sent me a new collar and had us return the old one...in that order, no questions!! Pretty good customer service in today's day and age!!! I'll continue to do business with them!!!

Preliminary Phase: Flag Awareness Training (Optional)

Phase 1: Passive Training (Days 1-3)

Set the Havahart Wireless Collar to Tone-only to introduce your dog to the Trigger Zone and teach him to move away from the flags upon hearing tone.
